Hurricane Dolly is readying to slam into South Padre Island in Texas as forecasters predict up to 15 inches of rain with the now category-one hurricane. Severe weather is expected in Texas later today.

Cordova residents got an update last night on a planned Wal-Mart for their area and the latest on a sexually-oriented business ordinance hanging up in the courts. Shelby County Commissioner Mike Rizt updated the Cordova Leadership Council and outlined the status with Craig on today's MMNClick Here .

You know your day isn't going well when the city police director starts the day off suing you. Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin wants to know who's responsible for a blog critical of the operation of the police department and his officers.

Unemployment figures in Memphis went down by one as former inmate Micheal Hooks Jr. hooks a new $16.41 an hour job with Shelby County. Hooks will work as a part-time recruiter for the Responsible Fatherhood Grants program which helps inmates restore relationships with their families.

Is our banking system sound? Wachovia Corp. sank to a record second loss in the second quarter of $8.9 billion. The losses fell well below what analysts had expected. Sen. Barack Obama has been meeting with troops and military commnaders  in Iraq and Afghanistan this week. Tuesday, Obama while in Jordan said dhe's wrk for Mideast peace declaring neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians stronng enough to make the bold conncessions needed for peace. He also discussed Afghanistan and a possible troop surge there.

Barack Obama continues his trip to the Middle East by visiting Israel. He'll also spend time with Israeli Primie Minister Ehud Olmert and members of his cabinet as well as Benjamin Netanyahu, former leader and head of the opposition party. We're getting closer to see who John McCain will name as his running mate. That name may be known as early as this week. Some speculation in recent weeks has centered around Mitt Romney.

The 2008 Libertarian nominee for President, former Congressman Bob Barr is talking up the issues with Craig on today's MMN . 

Memphis City School Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash is reshuffling admininstrators in the district as part of his revamping the schools as he takes over the system. Several principal changes are being made and various regions are being set up to form a centralized organization.

The school funding case involving city schools and the city council has ended. Closing arguments won't be heard until next month, ironically on the first day of school. The case could determine who is responsible for funding city schools.

The new Memphis City School Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash is bringing his former school security police chief from Florida on board.. but it's not without some controversy. School Board member Kenneth Whalum Jr. has always been a vocal supporter of Cash and pressed for his hiring by the board. Whalum discussed school security with Craig this morningClick Here .

A political powerhouse has been toppled as a jury finds former state senator John Ford guilty on a 6 counts Friday. Ford faces 20 years in prison. He's alreay serving a 5 year sentence for his conviction in Tennessee Waltz.

It doesn't appear as if there's going to a gas tax holiday this year, thanks to Congress killing the move.The plan lost to a view that federal excise taxes will have to go up regardless.

Democratic presumptive presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama arrived in Iraq over the weekend to meet with troops and top military commanders. Senator Obama has long opposed the war in Iraq. The GOP presumptive candidate, Senator John McCain claims the trip is nothing more than a photo op. The Shelby County Commission has a big vote today. That deals with putting the final vote on a county school budget that calls for sizeable pay hikes for top leaders, such as a 32% pay raise for Supt. Dr. Bobby Webb.
